Replace toilet flange

Welcome back to Happi Plumbing Channel. We use toilets everyday and really hope they work well all the time. However, sometimes we will be bothered by some toilet issues.

We have a customer who is bothered by a shaking and leaking toilet. So today we will share a case about replacing a toilet flange.

Customer Issue: The toilet wobbles, and there’s water leaking from the bottom.

Step 1: Pulled the toilet and inspected the toilet flange. It was found that the toilet flange was too high, causing the toilet to wobble and leak. The flange needs to be replaced.

Step 2: Used a sawzall to cut off the flange. The cut at the bottom should be even with the floor.

Step 3: Used a chisel to carefully remove the remaining part of the flange, a little at a time. This step requires extra caution. If you damage the main drain pipe, it will turn into a bigger job, and you will have to break up the floor to repair the drain. Before chiseling, place paper towels in the drain to prevent debris from falling into the drain and causing blockages.

Step 4: Used a reamer tool to further cut the excessive 4-inch PVC pipe to the correct level.

Step 5: Reinstalled the flange. Ensure that it was fully seated at the bottom and used a level to ensure it is installed properly.

Step 6: Used cement nails to further secure the flange.

Step 7: Replaced the wax ring and toilet bolts.

Step 8: Reset the toilet and tested it. The toilet no longer wobbles or leaks, and the customer is very, very happy. We are so happi to help.

Tips: Replacing a toilet flange is a moderately difficult DIY task. The hardest part is chiseling. You need to be very careful and patient when removing the flange tail piece. If the main drain pipe is damaged, the job will become much more complicated.

客户问题：马桶摇晃，底部有水漏出

1. 把马桶拎起来，检查flange, 发现flange太高，导致马桶摇晃和漏水，需要更换flange。
2. 用电锯切掉flange，底部要与地板平齐。
3. 用凿子，小心地把flange剩余部分一点一点凿掉，这一步要特别小心，如果把主下水道搞破了，那就变成更大的工程了，需要把地面切开，修复下水道了。在凿之前，在下水道中放入纸巾 ,防止碎片掉入下水道底部堵塞下水道。
4. 用reamer tool把过高的4 inch pvc 进一步切割至沉降。
5. 重新安装flange,flange 一定要完全安装到底部，同时用水平仪level 确保安装水平。
6. 用水泥钉，进一步将flange 固定。
7. 更换wax ring and toilet bolts。
8. 重新放上马桶。测试，不再摇晃，不再漏水，客户very very HAPPI。

更换toilet flange 属于有一定难度的DIY，最难的部分是chisel ,要很细心很有耐心地慢慢凿掉flange tail piece ,如果把主下水道凿破了，那就麻烦了，工程就变大了。
